Prosecutors: Dad pleads guilty in 2-year-old son's fatal stabbing

Micah Harrison pleaded 'guilty but mentally ill'

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - A father pleaded "guilty but mentally ill" in the fatal stabbing his 2-year-old son at a relative's home in Noblesville.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office said that Micah Harrison of Robertsdale, Ala., made a deal with prosecutors in court Wednesday. A judge accepted his plea to one charge of murder.

Authorities say Harrison stabbed his son, Michael, in January 2013 . Police say Harrison had driven with his three children to his parents' home in Noblesville and that the children's mother said he had taken them without her permission.

Prosecutors say Harrison said he feared someone was trying to kill him when he stabbed Michael in the chest with a kitchen knife and in the forehead with a nail-pulling tool. The other children weren't harmed.

According to his plea deal, he is expected to spend 55 years in prison. He's currently being held at the Hamilton County Jail. He will remain in custody until his formal sentencing on March 26.
