EDINBURGH, Ind. -- A young girl in Edinburgh is selling pumpkins - but it's not your average pumpkin stand.
"Pumpkins for Freedom" offers free pumpkins to military personnel, vets and public servants or "cherries and berries" as Shayla and her step-father call them.
The 10-year-old has a history of supporting the military, according to her step-father Aaron McElhinney, who says she also had a free lemonade stand for military members just this past summer.
The family lives near the Camp Atterbury training base, so there's no shortage of military personnel who travel by on any given day.
“The most important part is bringing my daughter up in the right world," said Mcelhinney.
The pumpkin stand is located at 6232 East 800 South in Edinburgh, at the corner of Hospital Road and Route 31.
Anyone can stop and buy a pumpkin, but Shayla and her step-father are using their stand to honor the military and police officers by offering pumpkins to them at no charge.
McElhinney says they've given away nearly 700 pumpkins already this year, and they will continue to do so all the way until the end of the month.
