INDIANAPOLIS --  A beauty school has closed its doors, blaming diminishing class sizes and a recent federal ruling about for-profit colleges for the decision.

"It is with great sadness that we announce that after more than 50 years of educating cosmetology students, Regency Beauty Institute is permanently closing on September 28, 2016. This closure affects all 79 campuses."

Regency Beauty Institute announced on their Facebook page around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening that they would be permanently closing all 79 of their campuses, effective immediately.

Regency Beauty Institute has campuses in Avon, Greenwood and Castleton as well as campuses in Evansville, Merrillville and South Bend.

Thursday morning, a few protestors showed up to the Avon location, holding signs that read "Shame on you Regency!"

Students who attend those campuses say Wednesday was a normal day on campus, so the news they received online that night, was shocking.

According to the institute's website the schools were forced to close because of the "declining number of cosmetology students, negative characterization of for-profit education by regulators and politicians" and the "inability to obtain continued financing" because of that.
