INDIANAPOLIS -- Several dozen residents were outside Fire Station 16 at Illinois and 56th streets Thursday night to show support in favor of keeping the station open.

A $2 million money-saving plan proposed by Fire Chief Ernest Malone in early march called for the Indianapolis Fire Department to consolidate four of its fire stations into two, including Station 16 and roll it into Station 32 in Broad Ripple.

People in the neighborhood are worried response times will be affected and they won't be as protected.

The neighborhood association says because a formal decision hasn't been made yet, they believe there's a chance the station may stay open after all.

IFD said they are still discussing the redeployment plans and couldn't give us a timeline as to when a decision will be made.
