INDIANAPOLIS - A theft suspect was taken into custody Monday after he was shot by a retired Indianapolis police officer.
Police said 30-year-old Ryan Kilbride tried to steal a purse from the wife of a retired Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer.
The couple was out for dinner at Los Rancheros restaurant in the 7100 block of Georgetown Road at the time of the incident.
Police said Kilbride tried to take off after he grabbed the purse, but the former officer shot him to stop him from getting away.
Kilbride was last listed in good condition and faces a preliminary charge of theft.
