Richmond Hill hero seeks peace in woods

Melvin finds hunting therapeutic

INDIANAPOLIS - Ben Melvin is among the people who ran to help neighbors dealing with collapsed walls, shattered glass and damaged homes during the aftermath of the explosion in the Richmond Hill neighborhood.

Melvin's family of four escaped from the aftermath of the explosion. It took him and his wife nearly five months to gut, repair and restore their home.

He tries to put those moments aside as he finds therapy in the trees. He said the woods have always been very therapeutic to him.

He enjoys finding the right tree for his stand so he can spot deer during hunting trips.

"I don't know how many times an hour it goes through my mind, but it’s pretty much there all the time," Melvin said.

Melvin uses his time in the trees to put the memories aside.

"Just being out here kinda helps me find peace with the world," Melvin said.

Melvin is among the many referred to as the Heroes of Richmond Hill.
