INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis pilot program dedicated to helping inner city kids brings together students and police officers several times per week.

Rightfit allows law enforcement and community leaders to help IPS students with their homework while teaching them about food.

“Often times we hear so many negative stereotypes about community kids and the police, but kids get to see police in a good light,” said officer Terry Winston.

Over 500 students in four elementary schools have enrolled in the 18-week program.

“Growing up I was fortunate enough to have an officer as a neighbor. He just gave to the kids in the neighborhood, and maybe that's the reason I became an officer,” said Winston. “Anytime I get that chance I always want to give that back to the kids. I am a byproduct of having a good relationship with police.”
