CARMEL, Ind. (AP) -- An Indianapolis suburb with about 100 traffic roundabouts would build 30 more over the next three years under an infrastructure plan its mayor has released.

Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said Tuesday he'll present the $217 million infrastructure plan to the City Council at its first meeting of the new year on Jan. 4. Besides the roundabouts, the plan includes other road projects and improvements to drainage and storm water systems.

Carmel's website boasts it already has more roundabouts than any other city in the U.S. It says that since Carmel began replacing traffic lights with roundabouts in the late 1990s, vehicle collisions involving injuries have fallen by about 80 percent.
