LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - A runaway horse escaped serious injury after running loose on Interstate 80 in Lake County on Tuesday afternoon.
The horse, named Geraldo, jumped his fence and headed eastbound on I-80, police said.
Geraldo fell on the road, and two nearby witnesses stopped to help.
Colleen Flee, of Chesterton, laid down next to Geraldo to keep him calm, and David Beckham, of Crown Point, stood by with Flee to help control the horse.
Police stopped eastbound traffic to walk Geraldo across the highway and onto a grassy area.
Police contacted the horse's owner, and Geraldo made it home with only minor abrasions.
