SALEM, Ind. - An infant boy from Salem, Ind., died Sunday of apparent blunt force trauma to the head, according to a medical examiner's report, and his mother's boyfriend was arrested Monday.
Salem police said 8-month-old Leelan Crain was found unresponsive by his mother and her boyfriend, Jamie Lykins, 24, at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday night. Leelan had been taking a nap prior to the incident, his mother told police.
The mother and her boyfriend took Leelan to St.Vincent Salem Hospital. Once there, the infant was transported to Kosair Children's Hospital in Lousiville by air ambulance.
He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:41 a.m. Sunday.
An autopsy performed on Leelan at the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office returned a preliminary cause of death of blunt force trauma to the head.
The official and final determination of the cause of death to Leelan Crain will not be made until the autopsy results are complete which typically takes up to six weeks.
Lykins was arrested Monday afternoon on preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent and battery causing death.
