School bus rear-ended on Indy's north side

Car driver nodded off, hit bus

INDIANAPOLIS - Emergency crews responded Wednesday morning to a school bus crash on Indianapolis' north side that sent several schoolchildren to the hospital to get checked out.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said four students were slightly injured in the crash, which happened just after 8 a.m. in the 7200 block of Township Line Road. That's near 71st Street and Michigan Road.

Witnesses told RTV6 a car rear-ended the bus. The driver of the car told RTV6 she nodded off behind the wheel before hitting the bus.

The four children hurt were reportedly walking, but were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Officials said they're expected to be OK.

Another bus came to the scene to take the rest of the kids to Spring Mill Elementary School in Washington Township.
