1 dead, 2 injured after three shootings within miles of each other

INDIANAPOLIS - Two people were seriously injured and one person later died after a series of shootings that happened within roughly one hour Wednesday night – just miles away from each other.

Around 9 p.m., officers headed to the 3100 block of Forest Manor Avenue to respond to a person who had been shot multiple times. That person was rushed to Wishard Hospital in critical condition.

Dispatchers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said a second shooting was reported around 10 p.m. IMPD said a person was shot in the chest in the area of North Emerson Avenue and East 39th Street, and was hospitalized in critical condition. The victim, 55-year-old Jerome Gray, later died from those injuries, police confirmed.

Then, IMPD said, a third shooting happened around 10 p.m. in the 4000 block of North Edmondson Avenue, also on the city’s northeast side. That’s just south of 42nd Street and west of Shadeland Avenue. This victim was a woman, who was also reportedly shot multiple times.

There is no word at this point as to whether the three shootings are connected.
