INDIANAPOLIS – Dijon Anderson, the Warren Central High School student involved in a shooting in early May, died as a result of his injuries Tuesday.

The 18-year-old student was involved in the shooting near 38th Street and Moller Road on May 6 that killed Anderson’s classmate, 17-year-old Angel Mejia-Alfaro.

Many people in the community said Anderson previously accepted a scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University.

"Dijon was headed for greatness," said Anderson's mother Christa Frazier. "He had a dream. He had a dream to make it to the NFL. He has a little brother who wants to be just like him. He's devastated. Everything Dijon did, he wanted to do."

Officials with Warren Township Schools released the following statement:

Our entire school community is saddened by the passing of Dijon Anderson. We extend our heartfelt condolences and support to his mother and the rest of his family.
Tomorrow at the high school we will have the appropriate counselors, local ministers and mental health resources present to help our students and staff through the grieving process.
We would respectfully ask that the local media allow us to devote our attention to the needs of our students and staff during this difficult time
