See the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 from space

INDIANAPOLIS -- You may think you've seen it all when it comes to the Indianapolis 500, but have you seen IMS from space?

DigitalGlobe used its GeoEye-1 Satellite to take this picture of the track the day of the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Notable facts about the race:

  • It was the first sellout in Indy 500 history
  • More than 350,000 attended the race
  • It was televised locally for the first time since the 1950s
  • Winner: Rookie Alexander Rossi
  • Average speed: 166.634
  • Rossi was a 66-to-1 longshot
