INDIANAPOLIS - A semi broke through the barricades in the south split construction site on Interstate 65 in downtown Indy.
The crash was reported just before 6 a.m. at the construction site where the road is blocked to traffic during a major project. No one was hurt, but police were trying to figure out why the truck driver drove through the construction site lined with barricades, detour signs and caution lights.
After breaking through the barricades, the truck became stuck and crews worked to move it.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said large trucks are no longer allowed to use the "collector" road that takes vehicles from interstates 65 and 70 to various downtown exits.
The stretch of road near I-65 and I-70 would be closed for a scheduled 59-day construction project, INDOT said.
The goal is to dig the road down, giving big rigs more clearance as they pass under several crossing bridges.
