MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. - A crash in Montgomery County involving a utility pole and a gas line has closed U.S. Highway 231 for hours and sent at least two people to the hospital.
The Crawfordsville Fire Department said two or three people were hurt in the crash, which occurred sometime around 2 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 231 and County Road 1100 North. Officials said a vehicle hit a utility pole and resulted in a broken gas line.
A medical helicopter arrived on the scene to transport the victims.
U.S. 231 was completely closed for roughly one hour. RTV6 spoke with Montgomery County dispatchers just before 4 p.m. They said crews were still working on crash cleanup, and officers on the scene are working on funneling traffic through one open lane.
Dispatchers indicated cleanup is taking longer than expected.
UPDATE at 5:15 p.m.: U.S. 231 is back open to traffic.
Not much else is known at this time about the nature of the crash or the medical conditions of those involved.
