WASHINGTON D.C. -- A man who worked at many U.S. Representatives' offices, including Rep. Andre Carson's (D-Indianapolis) was fired amid an investigation by Capitol Police.
The man, who has not been identified, is one of three brothers who provided IT services to at least 20 Congressional offices in Washington D.C. One of those three worked at Carson's office.
Capitol Police notified the offices that the brothers were being investigated on Feb. 1, a spokesperson from Carson's office said. The nature of the investigation is not known.
The three employees were not allowed on Capitol Hill during the investigation.
The one who worked for Carson's office has been fired, the spokesperson said.
On Feb. 2, Politico reportedthat five House employees were under investigation. According to Politico, the five employees are accused of stealing equipment from more than 20 offices and of accessing House IT systems without the lawmakers' knowledge.
It is unknown if the two incidents are related.
Carson's office released the following statement:
"All of Rep. Carson's employees are hired to help him better serve the needs of the 7th District. He holds himself and everyone on his staff to the highest ethical and legal standards and takes accusations of violations extremely seriously. Recent accusations regarding a shared employee, who was employed by multiple Members of Congress, and was an approved House of Representatives vendor, are not being discussed publicly. However, that employee is no longer employed by Mr. Carson and no longer has a contract with the House of Representatives.
Rep. Carson's constituents should rest assured that he intends to do everything necessary to ensure that they receive the best possible representation, in keeping with the laws of our country."
