Sheriff: Stolen deputy's gun, baton, handcuffs from 2011 burglary found in Kokomo home

KOKOMO, Ind. - Investigators said a tip led authorities to discover several missing sheriff’s office items – including a stolen handgun – at the home of a Kokomo man this week.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office said detectives got word Monday that a stolen sheriff’s office handgun was seen at the home of Richard Greene, located at 1624 Elmwood Lane in Kokomo, Ind.

Investigators said they issued a search warrant for Greene’s home and detectives, along with the assistance of a SWAT team, searched the home.

Inside the residence, investigators said they found the handgun, a police baton and handcuffs. They also said multiple people, including several small children, were in the home at the time of the search.

The building inspector was also called in to investigate due to the condition of the home, investigators said.

The sheriff’s office said the handgun, along with the other department-issued equipment, was stolen during a burglary of a deputy’s residence back in 2011.

Investigators said the case remains active.
