INDIANAPOLIS -- The daughter of slain Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer Timothy "Jake" Laird honored him at her wedding recently with a reserved seat.
Officer Laird's daughter was just 7 years old when he was shot and killed in the line of duty.
Laird was shot to death in August 2004 by a man with a rifle who murdered his own mother earlier that day.
Laird's daughter saved a seat for her dad, placing a police jacket and a photo frame with his photo in it at her wedding. She also wore a locket with a photo of him down the aisle as part of her bouquet.
The photo of the remembrance was shared by the Indy Goes Blue for IMPD Facebook page Sunday.
A golf outing is held annually in Laird's name, helping raise money for police officers in need new programs and new police equipment.
The Southeast District Roll Call was also renamed in Laird's honor.
"We miss him. We miss him. The city lost a police officer but he's our son, he's our child. So holidays are different, birthdays, everything is different. But we just try to remain strong in our faith and realize that we'll see him again one day," his mother Debbie Laird said in 2014 at the 10-year remembrance ceremony.
Laird's parents have maintained a memorial fund and have since raised more than $380,000 to donate to police officers and firefighters in Indiana.
