DELPHI, Ind. – Detectives working to find the suspect who they believe murdered two teen girls in Delphi said the direction of the investigation will alter in the coming weeks.

With the help of multiple law enforcement agencies, a large number of the more than 13,000 tips submitted in relation to the murders of Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, were combed through over the past five weeks. This assistance has left investigators with a smaller amount of tips to handle.

Some investigators will now leave to return to their home base to follow up on other investigations that were temporarily delayed due to the Delphi case.

On Feb. 13, German and Williams were reported missing after they were dropped off near the Monon High Bridge to go hiking. The next day two bodies were found by volunteers searching the area, and on Feb. 15 authorities positively identified the bodies as belonging to the teens.

The main command center will remain in the Carroll/White REMC building in Delphi where investigators will continue to look through the remaining tips.

“We remain committed to this investigation and the Carroll County and Delphi community until ‘this evil’ is eradicated. We are on board until the end to assist our fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters,” said ISP Superintendent Doug Carter.

ISP officials said those investigators returning home, “will still be within a phone call’s reach and could potentially return to this assignment.”

“We have been extremely blessed with the invaluable law enforcement assets and resources afforded to us the past few weeks in Carroll County,” said Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby. “We stress this investigation is ongoing and is not without resolve as we will find those responsible and reach proper closure for Abby and Libby and their families.”

Authorities said they want people to know this action does not mean the case is going “cold.”

During the investigation, a photo of the man police are calling a suspect was found on German’s cell phone. They also discovered a clip of a man’s voice saying, “down the hill.” You can listen to that clip below.
