INDIANAPOLIS - A broken water main on the south side of Indianapolis forced schools to send students home quite early for the day.
At roughly 8 a.m. Thursday, Citizens Energy Group crews responded to a burst water main in the 8000 block of South Meridian Street. That's right in front of Perry Township Middle School and near Perry Meridian Sixth Grade Academy.
A Perry Township schools spokeswoman said both schools were going without water due to the main break, so officials decided to send students home for the day at 9 a.m.
Citizens spokeswoman Sarah Holsapple said water will likely be back in the area at 1 p.m.
"Aging infrastructure, combined with cold temperatures, caused the break," Holsapple wrote.
School officials told RTV6 that students' parents and guardians had been alerted to the early school closures.
