SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- A woman in Speedway won a national award for helping animals in need in her community.

Joan Brown created Speedway Animal Rescue six years ago.

The not-for-profit business helps pay for animals' health needs and helps find them new homes.

Foster 'parents' take care of all of the animals because the rescue doesn't have a shelter.

Because of her work saving hundreds of lives, Brown was nominated.. and won.. the  "Good Neighbor Award."

She hopes her not-for-profit business will keep growing so she can save even more.

If you want to help, you can go to Speedway Animal Rescue's Annual Speedway Pet Palooza fundraiser on July 30 at Leonard Park, behind the police station. Everyone's welcome.
