INDIANAPOLIS - Traffic was at a standstill on southbound Interstate 65 just east of downtown after a fatal pedestrian crash, police said.
The incident happened just after 2:30 p.m. on southbound I-65 at the 111 mile marker.
Witnesses told police a white male walked westbound across the interstate and stopped in the middle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police later identified the victim as Thomas W. Roll, 53.
Police said Jonathan Schiewer, 24, could not avoid hitting Roll.
Investigators said no charges are expected to be filed against the driver, whose blood alcohol content was zero.
The coroner's office will determine if Roll had any drugs or alcohol in his system, police said.
