FRANKLIN — Indiana State Police detectives are investigating the death of an eight-week-old infant who was dropped off at a babysitter Tuesday morning in Franklin.

State police said the infant arrived at a babysitter in Pennington Trailer Park early Tuesday morning. At 10:51 a.m., Franklin police officers were sent to the trailer park regarding a medical emergency. Officers arrived at 10:52 a.m. and attempted life-saving measures, state police said.

The infant was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital and later pronounced deceased. The cause of death is unknown and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Johnson County.

State police said detectives are treating it as a death investigation and the infant's immediate family has been notified. The infant's identity is being withheld until extended family members can be told.
