INDIANAPOLIS - Gov. Mike Pence and other dignitaries will be gathering at the Indiana Statehouse for the funeral of former U.S. Rep. Andy Jacobs Jr.
A visitation for Jacobs begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the Statehouse Rotunda, followed by a noon funeral service. Pence is scheduled to speak during the service along with U.S. Rep. Andre Carson, who holds the Indianapolis seat Jacobs once filled.
Pence has directed that flags at state facilities throughout Marion County to be flown at half-staff Friday to honor Jacobs, who died last week at the age of 81.
He represented Indianapolis in Congress from 1965-73 and again from 1975-97. The Democratic lawmaker had a hand in the crafting the 1965 Voting Rights Act and opposed the Vietnam War.
