EVANSVILLE, Ind. - An Evansville man is grateful this Christmas for the gift of a kidney he received from a stranger.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports reports a bad case of pneumonia destroyed Mitch Petty's kidneys last Christmas. Doctors told him it could be years before a donor kidney was available. That meant years of dialysis.
But he got a new kidney last July after his wife Meredith posted a Facebook otem called, "A Kidney for Mitch." A co-worker, Charlie Bockelman, saw it, was tested and was a match. Bockelman says he decided to donate the kidney because Petty is a young father like him.
Petty says he'll never be able to repay Bockelman. He says it's the best gift he's ever received.
