INDIANAPOLIS -- Some people were still without power in Indianapolis and the surrounding area Monday morning due to high wind speeds Saturday.

According to IPL, 90% of customers still without power should be restored by Monday.

At one point Saturday night, Duke Energy said there were nearly 48,500 outages. As of 5 a.m., there are about 2,000 outages in central Indiana, mostly with IPL.

“Our crews are working to remove downed trees, replace power poles, restoring power lines and restore power. We’ve made significant progress, and we appreciate our customers’ patience and support as we continue to work as quickly and as safely as possible," Howard Fowler, Duke Energy's storm director said in a press release.

Denise Kamm, who lives in Zionsville, had been without power for nearly 24 hours.

"The house is below 50 right now. It's just been severely cold, and you know being without heat it's not a good thing for elderly people like myself," she said.

In addition to all crews, Duke Energy has called in additional workers from as far away as Michigan and Wisconsin.
