GREENWOOD, Ind. - A new opportunity is now open to families in need in Johnson County.
On Tuesday, The Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood cut the ribbon for a food pantry set up to meet a variety of needs.
Officials are calling the food pantry a 'Super Pantry' and it is the first of its kind in Indiana.
The church will store food and clothing at its new 1,500 square-foot facility.
The building will also house a variety of training sessions on subjects from budgeting to resume writing.
At the grand opening, Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers said the pantry is a much needed resource for the area.
"There is a huge need in Johnson County even though our unemployment rate is one of the lower in the state. We're fortunate that way, but we know that we do have people that every day come here and come to the different food pantries and ask for that help for food, for clothing, for necessities for their family," Myers said.
The Community Ministry Center is located at 381 North Bluff Street in Greenwood. It will be open periodically every Thursday and the first and third Saturdays of every month.
