With college sexual assaults gaining more and more attention across the country, one Indiana school recently learned exactly how many of its students say they've been assaulted.

Purdue University released the results of a campus survey where 21.9 percent of women who responded reported they had been sexually assaulted since coming to Purdue.

“In reality, we have to do what is right for our students right here at Purdue no matter Purdue’s disappointingly low response rate to the survey or the campus climate elsewhere," Purdue President Mitch Daniels said. "Even one incident of this sort is unacceptable, and we will use what we are learning from these results to focus on problems that are clear.”

Earlier in September, Purdue investigated a reported sexual assault at Purdue, the first known one of the 2015 school year.

The survey said 13.2 percent of respondents reported being sexually assaulted this year.

The survey was sponsored by the Association of American Universities and was done at 27 universities across the United States. Purdue was the only Indiana college to participate in the survey.

Purdue said 13.3 percent of people responded to the survey, much lower than the national average of 19.3 percent.

Nationwide, 23.1 percent of respondents reported being sexually assaulted since coming to college, slightly lower than Purdue's number.

Anybody wishing to report a sexual assault at Purdue can call the Purdue University Police Department at 765-494-7255.
