INDIANAPOLIS - SWAT crews and police gathered at an east-side apartment complex Saturday morning after a shooter refused to give himself up, police confirmed.
Just before 10 a.m., several RTV6 viewers reported that Lawrence police cars and SWAT crews were at Harrison Point Apartments, located at 9093 Bourbon St. in Indianapolis. Some viewers sent photos of the vehicles, attached to this story.
Lawrence police said dispatchers had received a 911 call at roughly 5:30 a.m. reporting a disturbance in the area. The caller said a man had shot someone. Police said they also learned the man may have been involved in another incident.
Police said after several failed attempts to make contact with the man inside the apartment building, the SWAT team was called in. Investigators said they used tear gas to apprehend the man at roughly 10 a.m.
The suspect was identified as Rodney Blakely, 34. Blakely is preliminarily charged with invasion of privacy and criminal confinement.
Two women inside the complex were also taken in for questioning and later released.
One viewer who lives near the apartments said she heard six to seven rounds of gunfire. She also said she heard police on loud speakers shouting at the building. At 10:40 a.m., the same viewer let us know people were being allowed to re-enter their apartments at the complex.
There is no word yet from investigators as to whether this possible standoff is related to a police situation earlier Saturday morning at 21st Street and Post Road.
