INDIANAPOLIS - A Greenwood High School teacher has resigned from his position after being arrested by Indianapolis Metro police, school officials announced Monday.
The Greenwood Community School Corporation said English teacher Tim Guilfoy, who had been with the district since 2000, was arrested on preliminary charges of child seduction.
School officials said they believe the incident involved a Greenwood student.
Police said Guilfoy, 36, was found naked inside a vehicle with a 17-year-old female on Saturday night, and he told officers they were having sex. Guilfoy also told police the girl was one of his students, officials said.
Police were initially dispatched to the area, the 8800 block of South Madison Avenue, on a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at the senior living complex.
Former students said they were saddened and disappointed by the allegations against a teacher that they said was highly respected.
"He was one of the most important educators in my career. I can count all of the ones on one hand who really had a big impact on me," former student David Rogers said.
Some former students said there had been suspicions and rumors of impropriety with female students before.
"About things similar to the current allegations. They were rumors and jokes. No one took it seriously. Now it's almost like saying that it's true. Maybe that really did happen," former student Kris Caraway said.
Married with children, the former teacher's wife is also an employee of the school district.
"I support him but it was a selfish act. He has a family with kids. It's hard to imagine what he was thinking during all of this," former student Ben Briggs said.
Marion County prosecutors will review the charges. Guilfoy was released on bond later Monday.
