INDIANAPOLIS -- A key lawmaker is proposing a scholarship to retain the "best and brightest" education students at Indiana's public universities.

House Speaker Brian Bosma is pushing for a $7,500 scholarship per year to cover tuition for students who are in the top 20 percent of their class, and commit to teaching in Indiana schools for at least five years.

It's part of the House Republicans' legislative agenda unveiled at the Statehouse Thursday.

Priorities for the super-majority also include a comprehensive road funding plan.

Bosma points to $1.5 billion in additional funding needed per year to maintain and improve the state's roads and bridges.
