INDIANAPOLIS -- A new Netflix documentary detailing America’s prison system brought dozens of people to Central Library Saturday afternoon for a movie screening and panel discussion.

“Thirteenth,” produced by Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay, highlights the 13th amendment, which abolished slavery. However, the film says mass incarceration proves slavery is still alive within the U.S.

“It was an excellent film. I feel it needs to be shown in every grade school, junior high and high school throughout the United States,” said Marc House, who attended the screening.

Central Library’s screening of the film was the first in a series called, “States of Incarceration.” You can learn more about that series here
