ELWOOD, Ind. - A teacher and coach with Elwood Schools has been fired after accusations he had an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Thomas Kessinger, 29, the head girls' basketball coach at Elwood Community High School, was arrested Tuesday evening on preliminary charges of child seduction and official misconduct, both felonies.

The investigation began after the Indiana Department of Child Services notified police and Elwood school officials about a complaint concerning an inappropriate relationship between Kessinger and a player.

Kessinger was also an instructor at the Elwood Alternative School.

The school board voted Thursday night to fire Kessinger from both positions with the district.
