Three in jail in connection to gun theft from state trooper's vehicle

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. - Bartholomew County investigators said they have three people in custody in relation to the recent theft of a firearm and ammo from an undercover police car.

Indiana State Police (ISP) said sometime between 11 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday, someone broke into an undercover state police vehicle in Bartholomew County and stole a Glock Model 21, .45 caliber handgun, two additional fully loaded magazines and other law-enforcement-related items.

ISP and county law enforcement arrested three people over the last few days, though ISP said formal charges have not yet been filed.

Dustin Tays, 23, Robert Remboske, 33, and Ryan Melloh, 25, are all from Columbus, Ind., and were booked into the Bartholomew County Jail in connection with the theft, ISP said.

ISP said the stolen items, including the handgun, have yet to be recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
