INDIANAPOLIS – Three people were struck by lightning on the city’s north side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police dispatch said the people were struck Tuesday afternoon in the 7200 block of North College Avenue around 3:45 p.m. IMPD public information officer Genae Cook said all of the people struck were adults.
Indianapolis Fire Department officials said the incident happened on Park Tudor's campus while contractors were paving the parking lot behind the fine arts building.
Campus police officer William Hagy began CPR on the man who was closest to the strike until medics arrived. Hagy also used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The man was shocked twice by medics and regained a pulse within 12 minutes, said IFD.
The three people were taken to St. Vincent Hospital.
Crews said the other two workers had minor injuries.
The company the workers were employed by released a statement Tuesday night:
Three Milestone employees were injured Tuesday afternoon by an apparent lightning strike, while on a paving project in northwest Indianapolis. All three employees received immediate medical attention, and are currently recovering. Our thoughts and prayers are with these employees and their families. Safety is our top priority and there will be a thorough review of this incident.
