INDIANAPOLIS -- What does a city in the grip of rising homicide rates look like?

If you live in a neighborhood like Meridian Hills: Probably about the same as a year with record low homicides. The neighborhood hasn't seen a single homicide this year – or for the past three years.

Things look different in Martindale-Brightwood, where eight people were killed in the first six months of the year alone. Jump over I-70 to the Near Eastside neighborhood, and another eight people have lost their lives.

If you want to see how homicides affect each part of the city, explore the three maps below. Each offers a different look at how the city is affected by violence:

Locations of Individual Homicides (2016)

Homicides by City-County Council District (January-June 2016)
(Note: These districts came into effect at the beginning of this year. Homicide numbers for 2014 & 2015 represent what those districts would have looked like in those years.)

Homicides by Neighborhood (January-June 2016)
