HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -
Hoosiers in Hamilton County agreed that it's time for the town of Fishers to become a city.
More than 55 percent of Fishers residents voted in favor of the proposal.
The town of Fishers will become a traditional city and voters will soon elect a mayor.
Residents also had the option of merging Fishers and Fall Creek Township while retaining its town council and appointing a mayor, but nearly 63 percent voted against the proposal.
"Change sometimes is good. Hopefully, the elected mayor will bring some good responsibility to the community and keep it growing like it is," voter Sherry Kapsalis said.
Fishers is expected to elect its first mayor in 2015 and council members will be elected by districts, rather than at large.
