KOKOMO, Ind. - Kokomo police seized a vehicle suspected in the Sept. 12 hit-and-run which left a teen dead.
Kokomo PD Maj. Brian Seldon confirmed to RTV6 that police now believe they've recovered the SUV which struck a moped with two teen passengers, sending both to the hospital and killing the driver, 13-year-old Christian Reede.
Officers responded to a residence on the 4000 block of Highland Springs Drive. While they were conducting a separate investigation at the residence, officers discovered possible evidence relating to the Sept. 12 hit-and-run.
Police served a search warrant on the residence and seized a grey 2006 Ford Escape believed to be the suspect vehicle involved in the fatal crash.
Seldon said that no arrests have been made at this time.
Police said the two 13-year-old boys were riding on a moped eastbound on County Road 300 South in Kokomo when their vehicle was struck by a truck attempting to turn southbound into Highland Springs Subdivision.
After striking the juveniles, police said the driver of the truck continued southbound through the subdivision without returning to the scene of the accident.
Both teenagers were airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis with serious injuries following an emergency transport to Community Howard Regional Health Hospital.
