MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana State Police said a two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a Marion woman Friday morning on U.S. 31 in Miami County.
Police said ISP troopers responded to the crash at roughly 10:05 a.m. on U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 1500 North, in which a Marion, Ind., woman was injured.
Investigators said Karen Cummings, 60, was driving a Jeep north on U.S. 31 near County Road 1500 North at a high rate of speed when the Jeep rear-ended a northbound passenger vehicle. The vehicle, a Pontiac sedan, was being driven by Gerald Harmon, 59, of Roann, Ind.
ISP said the crash caused the Jeep to travel across the median and roll several times before coming to a rest on its wheels in the southbound lanes of the highway. The Pontiac, meanwhile, was pushed into the median.
Cummings died of injuries sustained in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the deputy Miami County coroner. Harmon was not injured.
At this point, ISP said neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash.
