INDIANAPOLIS -- A neighborhood on Indianapolis' east side is on edge after bullets hit at least two homes early Wednesday morning.

James Brown's 1-year-old son was asleep in his crib when a bullet hit their house.

It went past the crib, through a wall, hit a door and ricocheted into the staircase.

The baby was not hurt, but Brown's 13-year-old daughter who was asleep on a mattress in the same room was shaken up.

"It was very scary. I don't know if they were trying to shoot us. We are cool with everyone. We don't know the people back there," said Jamia Brown.

Bullets hit the house across the street as well.  The 55-year-old woman who lives there heard about it from her husband.

"I got two bullet holes in my window. I said, 'Oh my god, are you alright?' He goes, 'yeah,' and I look outside and say 'this is horrible,'" said Lori Trobaugh.

It's not clear how many shots were fired, but Brown has a suggestion for whoever was responsible.

"Before you pick up a gun and start aiming it at someone, you need to think about the situation. Think before you act," said Brown.

Police are still investigating and have no suspects at this time.
