Two multi-vehicle crashes in same construction zone

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - Already-slowed traffic in a construction zone on I-94 came to a crawl Sunday when two three-vehicle crashes occurred in the same area.
Indiana State Police said a Michigan man was driving westbound on I-94 near the 23.8 mile marker when he was forced to stop because of traffic due to construction. A Buick traveling behind him was unstable to stop and hit the rear of the man's Yukon.
Troopers said a Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Louis Brown Junior, 56, of Gary, then struck the rear of the Buick, ejecting off his motorcycle and landing on the interstate.
The drivers of both cars were wearing their seatbelts and were unharmed. Junior, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso with non-life threatening injuries to his back.
A second three-vehicle accident had occurred just before in the same area, contributing to traffic slowing. No serious injuries were reported in that accident.
