INDIANAPOLIS -- Ever since construction barrels went up on U.S. 31, one question has been ubiquitous: How long will this headache last?
INDOT says crews have until the end of September to finish all of the work, which is happening in stages.
Crews will be removing the surface of pavement and replacing it on a roughly six-mile stretch from Greenwood to Franklin. During that time, they'll also put all of the traffic signals on that portion of U.S. 31 on automatic timers, instead of sensors.
INDOT says the maintenance is scheduled to extend the life of the highway and provide a safer commute for drivers into the future.
