INDIANAPOLIS -

A puppy who was stabbed nine times with a kitchen knife is doing much better nearly two weeks after undergoing lifesaving surgery.

The puppy, who was nicknamed Miracle by veterinary staff, had a follow-up appointment with his vet this week, according to the Friends of Indianapolis Animal Care and Control blog.

The blog said Miracle's vet reported the puppy is doing "very well."

The organization also reported that more than $1,200 -- enough to cover all of the puppy's medical expenses -- has been raised through donations from the community.

Miracle has been staying comfortably at a foster home.
