Visitation, funeral set at Statehouse for Andy Jacobs Jr.

INDIANAPOLIS - Former U.S. Rep. Andrew Jacobs Jr. will be remembered during a visitation and funeral scheduled at the Indiana Statehouse.

The longtime Democratic congressman died Saturday at the age of 81. Jacobs represented Indianapolis in Congress from 1965-73 and from 1975-1997 and was instrumental in writing the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

The visitation will begin 10 a.m. Friday at the Statehouse Rotunda. Gov. Mike Pence and U.S. Rep. Andre Carson are scheduled to speak during the funeral scheduled to begin at noon Friday. Carson holds the seat Jacobs held when he retired in 1997.
