INDIANAPOLIS – While a jail escapee has been caught, a couple's furry best friend remains on the loose after he escaped because of that fleeing human.

A man escaped police custody in downtown Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were able to catch Johnny Gamell in the 1200 block of East 10th Street – but not before he opened a gate and let Bianca the Scottish terrier escape.

“They ended up catching him hiding behind our trash cans,” Raymond Ailstock, Bianca’s owner, said.

A positive ending, but with a sad note.

Ailstock is now putting up lost dog signs to find Bianca, who is like a child to him and his partner.

“We’ve been on the road 24-7,” he said. “I haven’t slept – my mind’s been racing – thinking the worst, of course. And I’ve been praying.”

He’s had 3-and-a-half-year-old Bianca since she was just 7 weeks old. He just wants her to find her way home.

“She (has slept) with us every night for the last 3-and-a-half years,” he said. “Last night was the first night she wasn’t there.”

He says not only do they miss her, but Bianca needs medication.

And although she’s been spotted, she is skittish and clearly terrified, continuing to run from those who try to approach her.

But Ailstock says he refuses to give up on this member of his family.

“We don’t have kids,” he said. “We’re not blessed to have kids, so she’s our daughter. She’s our kid. We love her.”

Bianca was last seen near Rural and I-70.

If you see her, Ailstock says she’ll likely run, but try to follow her and call him immediately at 317-416-5417.
