Unable to travel, fans elated race will be live

Here at RTV6, we're pretty stoked about being able to broadcast the Indianapolis 500 live for the first time in nearly 7 decades. We found countless others who are thrilled at the lifting of the blackout - especially those who can't physically make it to IMS.

The blackout of the race on local TV stations has been the norm for many, many years. It’s a way to encourage fans to physically go to the race.

But many families dealing with physical disabilities – who are just trying to make it through each day – are now ecstatic, saying watching it live is as good as it gets.

And when you hear how emotional it makes the wife of a man suffering from terminal Stage-4 COPD, your eyes might just well up with tears like ours did!
