Westfield High School volunteer wrestling coach faces child porn charges after online discoveries

Online service contacted tip line

INDIANAPOLIS - A volunteer wrestling coach at Westfield High School was charged Wednesday on three child sex-related offenses after a tip from an online storage company was forwarded to authorities.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Christopher Rennard, 28, of Westfield, was charged with two counts of shipping or transporting by means of computer visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and additional charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Dropbox, Inc., an online storage company, that a user on their site had uploaded and stored child pornography files in January.

Investigators determined Rennard was the subscriber, and the online address was connected to his home in Westfield.

During a search of his home April 17, officials said Rennard admitted he had collected and distributed child pornography.

Officials said Rennard contacted other people interested in child porn on the Omegle iPhone app. Omegle is a chat service that allows strangers to videoconference with each other.

Rennard used Omegle to send and receive child porn pictures and videos via Dropbox, officials said.

"Through our Operation Community Watch initiative, we have joined with state and local partners to make clear that we will not tolerate child exploitation in Indiana," Hogsett said in a news release.

Operation Community Watch, an effort to employ more up-to-date techniques to identify child predators, began in 2013.

Westfield Washington Schools Superintendent Mark Keen issued the following statement:

"In the initial investigation, the law enforcement authorities were clear that there is currently no indication of victimization of any Westfield High School students. Westfield Washington Schools will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the district is safe and nurturing for all children at all times."

Keen said all volunteer coaches undergo a detailed background check and Rennard's revealed nothing out of the ordinary.
