INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man made an 85-mile journey in his wheelchair to raise awareness and money for child abuse prevention.

Richard Propes wheeled his way from Terre Haute to Indianapolis to raise funds for Ryves Youth Center in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

Propes said he's completed more than 20 "Tenderness Tours" over the years.

“I’ve been doing this tour for almost 28 years,” said Propes. “I’ve seen so much kindness and had so much good time on these trails.”

For his latest tour, Propes partnered with students from Bishop Chatard High School. The students joined him at Canterbury Park for the last mile of his journey, which he dedicated to the two slain Delphi teens, Abigail Williams and Liberty German.

“It was particularly traumatic to see something so horrific happen to these two teens,” said Propes. “I just wanted to do something in memory of them.”

His journey wrapped up on Friday afternoon with a lap around the high school track.

“I set out a week ago hoping I could do something to make our community better,” said Propes. “That I could show people that violence isn’t the answer.”
