WHITESTOWN, Ind. -- Whitestown Town Council members questioned Thursday night whether Clerk-Treasurer Amanda Andrews has been doing the job she was elected to.

"It feels like fraud to me," one resident said. A councilor asked what councilors Andrews had been meeting with.

The questions come days after a Call 6 Investigates report questioning an apparent extended absence by Andrews from her job as town clerk treasurer. A sign on Andrews' office claimed she was shadowing other clerks. The sign was later changed to say she was on vacation.

A week before Andrews was reelected, she accepted a full-time job at the Subaru plant in Lafayette. She told RTV6 in a  written statement that she hadn't failed to perform any of her job duties as clerk.

“I have had many requests in the last four years, and have fulfilled every single one of them,” Andrews said. “It’s not easy working 24/7 on holidays, nights, and weekends. Trying to take this vacation has been a nightmare. I can't be away from my desk for a vacation without a few people getting upset."

A man who apparently lives at the same address as Andrews spoke at the council meeting Thursday, saying he'd "personally seen her at farmers markets, national night outs, breakfasts with Santa, Easter egg hunts."

The clerk treasurer also had her newly acquired attorney on hand at the meeting, who shared that they are making sure she is serving in compliance with her position.

Andrews declined to speak on camera, but said she did not actively go after her second job, and only accepted it as a safety net.
